Day One – Welcome to Maryborough
First, we pick you up from your door and travel comfortably north with a morning comfort stop along the way. On arrival, we enjoy lunch at the charming Portside Café & Restaurant beside the beautiful Mary River. Next, we jump aboard a hosted heritage bus tour through Maryborough’s beautifully preserved streets. Our local volunteer guide brings the city’s rich colonial past to life with fascinating stories at every corner.
After the tour, we check into the comfortable 4-star Best Western Kimba Lodge. Then we head to the iconic Carriers Arms for pre-dinner drinks before sitting down to a delicious dinner. Later, put on your thinking caps for a lively trivia night. It is a fun and social way to end the day with great company and plenty of laughs.
Day Two – Mary Poppins, History and Lychee Delights
After a delicious breakfast at the lovely Alowishus café, we visit the quirky and beloved Cistern Chapel. Then we stop at the iconic Mary Poppins statue on the corner of Kent and Richmond Streets.
Next, we step inside the extraordinary Story Bank. This is the heritage-listed birthplace of P.L. Travers – author of the Mary Poppins stories. As you cross the threshold, you enter a world where fantasy and fact intertwine. The rooms are full of movie props, letters, and photos from Travers’ estate. It is a truly magical experience.
We also visit the Maryborough Military Museum before a guided tour of the Portside precinct. In addition, we explore the Portside Museum, the Australia Joint Stock Bank, and the Gatekeepers Artspace.
Finally, we head to the award-winning Lychee Divine for a guided farm tour, tastings, and lunch. Lychee Divine is Australia’s only commercial manufacturer of lychees, producing award-winning liqueurs, wines, ciders, balsamic vinegars, sauces, and ice cream. It is a delicious and fascinating way to round out this brilliant Maryborough Heritage Tour.
