    Day 1 HOME TO KINGAROY

Welcome to our three-day Kingaroy tour! Departing the Sunshine Coast this morning, we travel through the towns of Gympie and Kilkivan. Before heading into Kingaroy, we stop at Moffatdale Ridge Winery, located in the heart of the South Burnett’s wine-growing region. Passed down through the family for generations, the wine and liqueurs here are made in a distinctive style to suit local Queensland growing and drinking conditions. Think fresh, zesty whites and fruit-driven liqueurs. We will be given a tasting upon arrival, followed by a tasty lunch.

This afternoon, we arrive in Kingaroy and meet a local guide who will introduce us to the town. After dropping off our guide, we head to the Visitor Centre and Heritage Museum to learn about the region’s renowned peanut industry. We’ll then check into our accommodation for the next two nights.

Lunch at Moffatdale Ridge Winery | Dinner at the motel

This morning, we visit Bethany Cottages, home to the Bjelke-Peterson family for more than 100 years and one of the most famous farms in Australia. Every year, visitors come to Bethany to see this farm for themselves and enjoy delicious pumpkin scones with the family.

Afterwards, we travel to Taabinga Homestead, where we are welcomed by peaceful surroundings and a strong sense of history. Greeted by our host, Libby Leu, she will share her historic home with us on a guided tour.

Heading back into town, we have lunch at the local RSL Club before our afternoon visit to the Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery. The gallery showcases the talents of both local and visiting artists in three exhibition spaces. It is also worth visiting for its architectural features, as it is located in the former Kingaroy Shire Council Chamber—an Art Deco gem.

To conclude our day, we stop by the Peanut Van, which has become an icon of the town. You’ll find an array of addictive peanut flavours, from curry and maple bacon to ginger honey and salted caramel.

Breakfast and dinner at motel | Lunch at Kingaroy RSL Club

Today, we begin our journey home. Our first stop is Pottique Lavender Farm, where there is plenty to explore, including lavender products, jams and chutneys made from local produce, handmade soaps, antiques, stoneware pottery, homewares, and gifts.

From here, we travel to Bunya Mountains National Park for lunch at The Tavern. With peaks reaching 1,100 metres, scenic gullies, and a variety of vegetation types, the Bunya Mountains are home to geographically isolated habitats where a diverse range of plants and animals thrive.

Brilliantly coloured king parrots and crimson rosellas are sure to be seen on our visit, as well as red-necked wallabies feeding in the grassy areas. Offering panoramic views over both the Western Downs and South Burnett region, along with an abundance of wildlife, the Bunya Mountains are as peaceful as they are spectacular.

After lunch, we make our way home after another fantastic getaway.
