Day 1: Thursday 2 September: Sunshine Coast to St George This morning we hit the road early for our exciting escape to Lightning Ridge and, as we settle into this travel day, also meet our fellow adventurers. Enjoying comfort stops along the way, we head for St George and our hotel for the evening.

Day 2: Friday 3 September: St George to Lightning Ridge Today is an interesting day of touring. We have a brief look around St George before heading to Cubbie Station. Letting our guide lead the way, we spend the morning touring the giant farming operation that produces a wide variety of irrigated agriculture including cotton, wheat, and barley. After a pub lunch, we continue traveling, crossing the border before arriving in Lightning Ridge. We finish the day at the Bore Baths. Some of you may like to soak any unwanted tension away in the hot mineral water. Rich in potassium salts, these baths are reported to be beneficial to sufferers of rheumatism and arthritis. After a relaxing soak we head to our hotel feeling rejuvenated and ready for tomorrows exploring. Wallangulla Motel (3 nights) Breakfast and dinner at motel | lunch included Day 3: Saturday 4 September: Exploring Lightning Ridge (B + L + D) This morning we are in for an intriguing experience. Visit the Chambers of the Black Hand, an underground gallery with works carved and painted into the walls by the artist, Ron Canlin. There is no subject off limits here as Ron constantly carves his new works. Next, we experience the atmosphere of an underground mine at Opal Mine Adventure. Here we’ll learn about opal mining through a video presentation and visit the showroom to view the opals that came from the mine in this area. Then popping into the Cactus Farm, you’ll be captivated by the beautifully displayed and numerous varieties of cacti. We are then joined by a local guide who will lead us on a sightseeing tour before uncovering Amigo’s Castle, a huge Italian Style Castle built by one man. Later, we’ll return to our hotel and refresh before dinner. Breakfast and dinner at hotel | morning tea and lunch at Opal Mine Adventure Day 4: Sunday 5 September: The Grawin (B + L + D) With our local expert joining us again we head out to The Grawin, a group of Opal Fields where the largest opal ‘Light of the World’ was found. Be treated as a local at the welcoming Glengarry Hilton, a unique place for our lunch and no doubt a great place for the Australian larrikin. After our tucker we head back to ‘the Ridge’ with just enough time to look at the John Murry Art Gallery where John’s kept busy adding to his outside mural, affectionately named ‘Billygoat Lane. Breakfast and dinner at motel | lunch at Glengarry Hilton Day 5: Monday 6 September: Lightning Ridge to Moree (B + L + D)

This morning we farewell Lightning Ridge and travel to Moree where we enjoy lunch upon arrival. After lunch we meet our local guide who will enlighten us to the town’s past and present day, also sharing the region’s agricultural successes. Visiting a Pecan Farm, we will discover how the intention of creating a commercial Pecan operation came to be, and taste for ourselves why these Pecans have become so sought- after. Afterwards we’ll head to our motel which has its own Artisan Spa and some of us may like to take a relaxing dip before dinner and a good night’s rest. Artesian Spa Motor Inn (1 night) Day 6: Tuesday 7 September: Homeward Bound (B + L) Today is a travel day, enjoying comfort stops along the way as we push through to Toowoomba. Perched on the edge of the Great Dividing Range, we’ll enjoy lunch at Picnic Point Lookout Cafe & Restaurant with stunning views of the Lockyer Valley and Tabletop Mountain. After lunch we’ll begin our final leg back to the Sunshine Coast, arriving home with new friends and fond memories of the intriguing Lightning Ridge. Breakfast and dinner at motel | lunch at Picnic Point Lookout Cafe & Restaurant
