Day 1: Friday 6 May: Sunshine Coast to The Murray River (L + D)

We have an early start today, heading to Brisbane Airport for our direct flight to Adelaide. On arrival, a local coach will be waiting to take us straight to the Hilton Hotel for lunch. This afternoon we make our way to Mannum and board the Murray River Princess for our 7-night Upper Murraylands Cruise. Once we have checked into our cabins we disembark and head upriver to enjoy our Welcome Dinner. As we cruise under floodlights to our overnight mooring at Caurnamont, we may see nocturnal wildlife on the riverbank. Watch for kangaroos, hairy-nosed wombats, tortoises, egrets and many other species. Our on-board entertainer will provide music for the night owls among us.

Day 2: Saturday 7 May: Walker Flat & Sugar Shack Conservation Park (B + L + D)

Daybreak is time for the keen photographers to be out to capture the special light and the morning movement of wildlife. Prolific birdlife includes pelicans, wrens and swans. This morning, our discovery vessel awaits for a wildlife tour. Travelling in small, personalised groups, we explore the maze of the river and the birdlife is amazing. Watch for darters, herons and egrets feeding along the river’s muddy edges. For those who choose to stay on-board, you may wish to partake in a game of bocce or compete in the fishing challenge before we cruise upriver past Walker Flat to Sugar Shack Conservation Park. In the afternoon, join us in the Sturt Dining Room for a special presentation on the bounty of food and wine produced in the Riverland. After dinner, enjoy being entertained by our on-board entertainer.

Day 3: Sunday 8 May: Lock 1 & Morgan (B + L + D)

We’ll enjoy breakfast as we continue cruising upriver and pass through one of 13 locks that maintain the flow and levels of water. This morning, enjoy some free time and in the afternoon join in the fun playing a few games of bingo. Late afternoon we will secure the vessel at Morgan and, after dinner, enjoy being entertained by our talented crew.

Day 4: Monday 9 May (Trevor’s Birthday): Waikerie & Kingston On Murray (B + L + D)

Today we are transferred by coach to the Riverland town of Waikerie and the Banrock Station Wine and Wetland Centre near Kingston On Murray. Enjoy some free time in Waikerie and at Banrock Station delight in cellar door wine tastings followed by a delicious lunch and DVD presentation. There will be time to take a stroll around the gardens and orchards enjoying the relaxing scenery. Return by coach to Morgan where we will re-board the Murray Princess and continue our journey upriver and secure at the 329km mark of the Murray River.

Day 5: Tuesday 10 May: Caudo Vineyard & Donald Flat Lagoon (B + L + D)

After breakfast, we arrive at the picturesque Caudo Vineyard located at Hogwash Bend. Here we will enjoy cellar door tastings and explore the gardens and orchards. Enjoy a leisurely lunch as we cruise downriver back towards Morgan. Mid-afternoon we’ll join a guided walk of the Morgan township and the Morgan Living History Museum. We’ll depart Morgan late afternoon and secure at Donald Flat Lagoon for our overnight moorage. After dinner, join all the fun and excitement and participate in our “Murray River Cup”

Day 6: Wednesday 11 May: Swan Reach & Sunnydale (B + L + D)

After breakfast, we cruise to picturesque Swan Reach. The town was first settled in the 1850s and was originally the largest of five sheep and cattle stations in the area and is now home to native flower and fruit growers. The original Swan Reach homestead is now the Swan Reach Hotel where we can enjoy an ale or cappuccino overlooking the Murray River (additional cost). Join a walking tour and visit the Swan Reach Museum (gold coin donation at entry). Cruise downriver after lunch and take in the tranquillity as the landscape slides by. Catch up with friends over a coffee or drink whilst enjoying the magnificent scenery. When we arrive at Sunnydale, it’s all ashore for the Woolshed Show as we recreate typical Australian woolshed history. Later we visit the Native Wildlife Shelter where some of South Australia’s most interesting native animals are cared for. And then, of course, there is the great Aussie Barbecue – cooked and served in a bush setting on the banks of the mighty Murray River. An optional Nocturnal Tour (additional cost) in a comfortable purpose-built cart is available after dinner where you may see kangaroos, wombats, foxes, bats, and owls by powerful spotlights. Special stops along the way are included to view the spectacular night sky which is part of the River Murray International Dark Sky Reserve.

Day 7: Thursday 12 May: Ngaut Ngaut & Younghusband (B + L + D)

After an optional Bush Tucker Breakfast (additional cost), we slowly cruise downriver past magnificent cliffs scoured by the river over millions of years. We reach Ngaut Ngaut Aboriginal Reserve, one of Australia’s most significant archaeological sites, for a step back in time – tens of thousands of years – for a guided boardwalk tour to view ancient rock carvings and to learn about aboriginal history in the area. We return to the vessel and cruise downriver to Younghusband. Along the way, adventure seekers can also take a scenic tender boat ride. Tonight, join your fellow passengers for a delicious final night dinner and enjoy the evening entertainment.

Day 9: Saturday 14 May: The Adelaide Hills (B)

Today we spend the full day exploring Hahndorf and the Adelaide Hills. We start our day with a locally guided tour through the historic township, visiting Germanic cottages and hearing local stories along the way. Next, we visit the home and studio of the world-renowned artist Hans Heysen. He settled in Hahndorf in 1908 and built his studio, “The Cedars” in the style of a Bavarian Chalet. We will enjoy a guided tour of the house, the studio (as Hans Heysen left it, including some unfinished sketches) and the widespread gardens. This was his base as he painted extensively onsite in the hills around Hahndorf and in the Flinders Ranges. We have some free time to buy lunch in Hahndorf before heading to Woodside for a visit to Melba’s Chocolate and Confectionery Factory. We spend time taking a look at the operation and experiencing the old chocolate and confectionery making techniques. Make sure you try their Rocky Road! Going from sweet to savoury, next door is Woodside Cheese Wrights and here we can sample some of the delicious locally made cheeses. Late afternoon we return to Hahndorf and have a free evening to head out for dinner.

Day 10: Sunday 15 May: Homeward Bound (B)

After our last breakfast together, we’ll check out, transfer to the Adelaide Airport and fly back to Brisbane before going home to the Sunshine Coast for home drop-offs.

Murray Princess Cruises Strict Rules

● Passenger Cruise Contract is to be fully and properly completed by each passenger together with The Funtastic Tour Company Booking Form and Medical Information Form together with a $200 Per Person Non-Refundable Deposit.

● The above is to be received by us no later than Friday 17 December.

● Final payment is to be received by us no later than Friday 28 January.

● Photo Identification (Drivers Licence or Passport) must be on your person as we board the Murray Princess as well as flights.

● A $50 Fee Will Be Charged If Name Changes Are Requested so please ensure all first, middle and surnames are correct as per your nominated photo identification (Drivers Licence or Passport) as you will be charged $50 if any of these are incorrect.

● A Certificate of Fitness to Travel is required from your GP by all passengers 80 years of age and over and a copy must be produced on request. Please refer to Clause 8 of the Passenger Cruise Contract:


(a) Passenger is fit for the cruise. The passenger warrants that he or she is physically fit and capable of undertaking the agreed cruise. The Carrier in its sole discretion may require the production of a Doctor’s Certificate from any passenger in that regard. A certificate of Fitness to Travel is required from all passengers 80 years of age and over and a copy must be produced on request. If passengers have pre-purchased Travel Insurance which covers medical expenses, a Doctor’s Certificate may not be required. (b) Consent to treatment. If, in the opinion of the Carrier, a passenger is in need of medical assistance and is unable to request it, the passenger hereby consents to the Carrier making such medical arrangements as it deems necessary, at the cost of the passenger. (c) Passenger’s obligation to report medical conditions. The passenger must report any pre-existing illness, disability or pregnancy or any other conditions for which the passenger may require medical attention during the course of the voyage to the Carrier or its General Agent before the passenger ticket is issued. If any such condition arises after the ticket is issued it must be reported to the Carrier, its servants or agents before boarding or as soon as such illness or disability is known. Failure to report any such condition shall completely absolve the Carrier, its servants or agents from all or any liability in respect of such condition. (d) Lack of obligation to examine passenger. The Carrier does not have any obligation to examine any passenger prior to boarding or sailing for any purpose, and the Carrier relies entirely on the passenger’s warranty as to fitness herein before referred to (e) Refusal of passage. The Carrier reserves the right to refuse passage to a passenger who has failed to give proper notice of physical disability, illness or handicap requiring special care, attention or treatment or who in the Carrier’s opinion is physically or mentally unfit for travel. In such an event the fare will be refunded at the sole discretion of the Carrier, and the Carrier shall be entitled to deduct any expenses associated therewith. (f) Treatment at passenger’s risk. Subject to the foregoing, any medicines, surgical attendance or medical treatment furnished by a qualified Doctor or Medical service personnel (all of whom are engaged as independent contractors) designated by the Carrier or the ship’s officers or other servants of the Carrier, shall be and are accepted at the passenger’s sole risk, and the Carrier shall not be responsible for the quality, nature or consequence thereof.
